Igor is a tiger who came to Love Lions Alive sanctuary after having been kept as a pet in a house in Gauteng, South Africa. He had become obese, with high cholesterol, due to being fed exclusively frozen chicken pieces and a lack of exercise. A house is an inappropriate habitat for a Siberian tiger. Igor’s owner decided to give him and a female Siberian tiger, Kanosha, to Love Lions Alive. Panthera Africa and Ban Animal Trading worked alongside us on the rescue.

Igor arrived at Love Lions Alive sanctuary in May of 2021. He has settled into his new home excellently and is a very social cat. We built his enclosure on a high-point of our sanctuary’s mountain-side slope, which is full of vegetation and boulders for him to climb. This also gives him an amazing position to survey the rolling hills and other cats below him, and he is often spotted doing so. Igor is a social tiger who loves to check out what’s going on around him.
